Opthalmology Staff

Dr. Nicholas Millichamp graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1978. After working in small animal practice he spent three years at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, and at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London, pursuing doctoral research on inherited retinal degeneration and retinal surgery in dogs. He completed residency training in comparative ophthalmology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1985. He was awarded a Diploma of Veterinary Ophthalmology from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1986. Dr. Millichamp became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2004 and was elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2008.

Dr. Millichamp was staff ophthalmologist at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, and faculty member in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Studies at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M University from 1986 until 2009. His clinical and research interests have focused on the pharmacology of ocular inflammation, ocular surgery (particularly cataract surgery in horses), and ocular disease in exotic species and, more recently, ophthalmic telemedicine and imaging. Dr. Millichamp lectures internationally, has published many papers in scientific journals and contributed to several textbooks of veterinary ophthalmology. He was a consultant for Central Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology before establishing offices with Eye Care for Animals in 2009. Dr. Millichamp has been with the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of West Houston since November, 2011.

Jan Carleton got her first taste of veterinary medicine as a part time veterinary assistant while acquiring her Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Texas.  Upon graduation, she joined Richland Animal hospital as a technician/office manager.  She spent the next 21 years there learning from veterinarians who treated small animals, avians, and exotics, as well as the animals of the Fort Worth Zoo.  Jan and her family then moved to Tennessee where she had the opportunity to work with a board certified equine internal medicine specialist and was a technician/office manager for a clinic responsible for critical care and surgery for injured wildlife.  Jan joined the Eye Care for Animals team in 2010 and has been with the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of West Houston since November, 2011.

 

Jan lives in Spring, Texas with her wonderful husband, John.  Their Noah's Ark includes 2 eclectus parrots, a cockatiel, a canary, several hens, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and gaited horses.  They have 3 beautiful adult daughters and a fantastic granddaughter.  They enjoy riding, gardening, water sports, and spending time with family.
